Technical Publications Flash Presentation

Create documentation as advnaced as your products

Product documentation, such as installation manuals, service manuals, parts lists, owner’s & operator’s manuals, bulletins and training manuals should be concise, accurate, tailored to the target audience, and should readily present the information needed to complete the specific task.

We’ll show you how PTC’s solution for technical publications can help your organization lower costs, shorten cycle times, and deliver high-quality technical publications that match the exact product configuration and are tailored to the individual reader.

Quick and easy to use perspective illustration tools

IsoDraw provides the Technical Illustrator with a set of specialised tools for creating perspective illustrations.
Geometry can be aligned to an isometric grid and easily edited via grips once in place, the grid itself can be defined in any perspective orientation the user would like. As the illustrator works, IsoDraw takes into account the thick and thin lineweights used in technical illustration and applies them to the geometry as it is created, the user can modify the lineweights of individual elements as desired.

Specialised tools for drawing in perspective

Especially noteworthy drawing functions include alignment of elements to perspective grids and perspective rotation and reflection. IsoDraw provides an elegant solution to one of the major drawing challenges – finding and creating ellipses. Simply define your desired perspective and the ellipses are created automatically. The package also includes a number of versatile projection tools for penetration curves or for manipulating perspective views.

Shaft tool

The Shaft tool is used to illustrate complex gears. Illustrations can be generated in a few minutes with customized parameterization. Grooves, gearwheels, shaft ends and many other details can be adapted within seconds.

Dimensions

IsoDraw incudes the tools needed to annotate illustrations with dimensions. Linear, radius, diameter and angular dimensions can be added to the illustration in any plane as necessary.

Comprehensive standard parts library

The product scope includes over 2,200 views of standard parts. To select a part, press a button in a window in IsoDraw and the part will immediately be incorporated in the illustration in the correct orientation, perspective and size. Especially useful: The most recently used parts are offered as "Favorites".

2D CAD to perspective illustration

IsoDraw provides special functions for editing 2D CAD data. The Extrusion tool is used to extrapolate a solid body from a 2D flat view, which you can then rotate and reflect in 3D. There is also a tool for creating rotational surfaces from planes. In both of these, the hidden lines are removed automatically and line thicknesses are assigned.

Following the conversion of 2D data the perspective illustration the standard IsoDraw tools can be used to add further detail and annotation to the illustration.

This workflow allows the IsoDraw user to achieve seamless usage of 2D CAD data in technical illustrations.

3D CAD to illustration

The designer exports the 3D model to IGES, DWG, DXF, VRML or OBJ. To simplify data transfer, IsoDraw provides the export settings for the CAD system in question (e.g. for CATIA; ProE, Unigraphics, I-DEAS, Solid Designer and many more). Practically every CAD system can create files with assembly information. The designer can export a complete assembly in one file, which is imported with CADprocess. The illustrator then decides which assemblies/components to include. The 3D file can be gradually broken down into individual spare parts illustrations. In the past, this work had to be done by the designer.

There are a number of tools available for manipulating the 3D data: explosion along any axes, cutaways, rotations, reflections, copying, scaling, etc. Handling is highly intuitive and thus very quick to learn, even without prior knowledge. This means you can be doing productive work within a few days.

CADprocess deletes the hidden lines, sets the line thicknesses as required and optimizes the elements. Individual line segments are connected and smoothed to Bézier curves or ellipses. As a result, the elements are more compact and easier to edit. This in turn reduces the file size, a key advantage for electronic delivery.
